Why do good times fly?: lyrics and love for the long-haul

I met this lady at a wedding, she was maybe in her sixties or early seventies. I didn’t know her, but ended up talking about her husband and their kids who were all grown up now, except one - who had died in a tragic accident as a child.

I was so struck by her love for her husband and her family, and the way she carried the pain of her loss. And it just made me think, that’s the kind of love I want to have in my life.

Why do good times fly?

By Tina Boonstra

Remember that time when the power went out in the city?

We used birthday candles to light every room in the house

We sat on the floor talking ‘til two in the morning

And I’m wondering why every day can’t be like that one now?

Remember the summer that we took a train to the ocean?

We climbed a tree and watched sunset in silver and gold

When I turned around I saw you took ring from pocket

And you whispered to me with this ring comes my body, my soul.

Years go by,

Why do good times fly and scars remain?

Years go by,

Baby you and I, we make mistakes

But I wouldn’t have it any other way

Remember that time when I cried watching ads on the TV?

And you took it picture of my stomach every day

It blew my mind, that something inside of me was also apart you

And it was like we were born on the day that she came.

Remember that time when you pulled our May out the water?

Her soft lips were blue and my heart fell like glass to the floor

We rushed to the car and cried as we drove her down to the hospital

I’ve never prayed like that before

Years go by, Years go by,

Why do good times fly and scars remain?

Years go by,

Baby you and I, we make mistakes

But I wouldn’t have it any other way
